|A Missional Call towards the Witness of our Common Humanity in Christ|
“I will build my church” – these words of the Lord are found in Matt. 16:18, they have sustained church through generations and human conditions. History proves to us that the Lord is indeed actively and progressively building His church. The Spirit of Christ revealed to the apostle Paul that church must be built to the point where the stains, wrinkles, and blemishes of the world (worldliness or the influence of the surrounding culture) are completely removed from her (Eph. 5:27), and until she reaches full maturity or completion in the spectrum of the Nature of Christ (Eph. 4:11-13). The apostle Peter declared that the Lord cannot return until God’s restoration plan for the church has been fully realized, in line with prophecy of scripture (Acts 3:19-21). Therefore, every generation must grapple with this apostolic mission of building towards maturity in Christ. This requires that in each season, church discerns and quantifies dimensions of life that constitute spiritual maturity in Christ. For there is a time for everything and a season for every activity; and the wise heart knows the proper time & procedure (Eccl. 3:1 & 8:6).
Kingdom Humanity represents a quantum and a dimension of the life of Christ that is coming to church in this season.
What is Kingdom Humanity?
Kingdom Humanity is the prophetic conviction that God is adorning (beautifying and clothing) church with the Humanity of Christ.
The qualities and attributes of the Nature of Christ are coming upon the church, to transform, clothe and beautify her with a humanity (quality of life) that can only be attained by faith in Christ. Church is being moved from a culture-based to a faith-based humanity.
- Kingdom Humanity defines a frame of existence in which Christ is the image of Humanity.
- Kingdom Humanity is the Arrangement of Human Life in Christ.
- Kingdom Humanity is a missional call towards the practice of a faith-based (as opposed to a culture-based) humanity.
Kingdom Humanity – Framework of Faith
Kingdom Humanity brings a new and an empowering apostolic framework that moves the church beyond the limitations of “ceremonial Christianity” (the Christianity of gathering) to a broader, practice-based, and existential Christianity. The most powerful thing about the Christian faith is not the gathering – it is the existential meaning of our belief system. The big question of the faith is this: how does our belief system organize human existence? The two fundamental laws of the Kingdom of God seek to address this issue: “love the Lord God with all your heart” is the law of devotion. “Love your neighbor as yourself” is the law of human existence, it is the law of citizenship.
Kingdom Humanity presents a revelation from the Lord that defines how believers must express their faith for existential wellbeing (or shalom). The Lord is saying to us that we must practice our faith through three spheres of life: these are spheres of Devotion, Personal Humanity and Citizenship.
- The practice of Devotion – a practice of priesthood in the Holy Spirit and through devotion of our heart before God.
- The practice of Personal Humanity – humanization (incarnation) of the Nature of Christ through the cycle of spiritual conviction and personal transformation.
- The practice of Citizenship – practice of God’s righteous administration in the Spaces of Life that we inhabit (spaces of family, neighborhoods, schools, workplace, cities and nations etc.).
Devotion is the foundation of our faith. We are called to be priests unto God, to honor and worship Him with our hearts and lives. Just like Old Covenant priests offered sacrifices to God on a physical altar, so are we called to be a living sacrifice that presents a sweet aroma to God. The primary law of the Kingdom of God is that we must love God with all our hearts. The believer is called to exist in a state of perpetual devotion before God, through a continuous practice of disciplines of the faith – i.e. worship, prayer, devotion to Scripture etc.
Personal Humanity means that God wants to reach out to our hearts in order to transform our characters and lives. We have been crucified with Christ and we no longer live, but Christ lives in us. The life we live in the body, we live by faith in the Son of God, who loved us and gave himself for us (Gal. 2:20). Our purpose, as well as our mission, is to become the incarnation of Christ in the earth. We give Him a demographic profile through our lives. We must let Him live through us, through the process and cycle of spiritual conviction, personal transformation and obedience.
God wants to reach out and touch our personal humanity. The following components make up the anatomy of our Personal Humanity, and they are the battlefield between Light and Darkness:

Citizenship means that we are inhabitants of Spaces of Life. The Bible describes us as citizens and fellow-citizens (Eph. 2:19). The word “citizen” describes an inhabitant of a town – an inhabitant of a Space of Life. We were created to inhabit Spaces of Life (Acts 17:26). These are spaces of family, neighborhoods, schools, businesses, workplaces, cities, nations etc. Not only must we inhabit these Spaces of Life, but we must also engage them through a citizenship that comes from Christ (Phil. 3:20). We must bring the administration of God to the Spaces of Life in which God has given us influence (Ps. 115:16, Ps. 8:6). In this season, the Lord is activating the exhortation of Paul to the Philippians: “Above all, you must live as citizens of heaven, conducting yourselves in a manner worthy of the Good News about Christ. Then, whether I come and see you again or only hear about you, I will know that you are standing side by side, fighting together for the faith, which is the Good News” (Phil. 1:27, NLT).
The practice of citizenship means that we must engage the following missional imperatives within our Spaces of Life (and these imperatives constitute the “gospel of Kingdom Citizenship”):
- Advocate: calling for the righteousness of God in order to shift culture in the Spaces of Life (2 Pet. 2:5).
- Reform: establishing changes to bring the Spaces of Life to a place of harmony with the Kingdom of God (Luke 3:4-6).
- Reconcile: facilitating reconciliation of hostile elements within the Spaces of Life to bring about the peace (shalom) of God (2 Cor. 5:15-21).
- Develop: Engaging a process of progressive building to improve the quality of life in the Spaces of Life (Isa. 61:1-6).

Kingdom Humanity represents a shift from a ceremonial, devotional Christianity, to a Christianity of practice of humanity through the Nature of Christ. The highlight of our faith in Christ is not that we gather on Sunday, it is that we gather to celebrate and refine our on-going practice of a faith-based humanity in the world.
These three spheres, platforms and expressions of faith bring a holistic witness to the world:
- Devotion – brings the witness of the Lordship of Christ to the world.
- Personal Humanity – brings the witness of Humanity of Christ to the world.
- Citizenship – brings the witness of Administration of God to the world.
The three spheres represent a holistic encounter with the Kingdom of God…
- Devotion – the Kingdom of God comes to the human heart (we internalize Christ and the Kingdom).
- Personal Humanity – the Kingdom of God comes to our Personal Life (we personify Christ and the Kingdom).
- Citizenship – the Kingdom of God comes to the Spaces of Life (we use principles of Christ to inhabit Spaces of Life, to establish the Kingdom of God).
And these three spheres are the channels through which Scriptures speak to us. They constitute the very framework of the Word of God to man:
- Devotion – the scriptures address our devotional life towards God: We must worship the One true God.
- Personal Humanity – the scriptures address our mindset, character and behavior: We must pursue a life of holiness.
- Citizenship – the scriptures speak into how we are to inhabit and share Spaces of Life together with our fellow-citizens: We are to love our neighbor as ourselves.

Kingdom Humanity broadens the scope of kingdom mission in the church by inviting ordinary believers to use their day-to-day affairs of life in their domestic spaces, as platforms for kingdom advance and of witnessing to the world. This takes kingdom mission back to the immediacy of our domestic, daily lives. It removes arbitrariness and meaninglessness in our daily routines, and it brings a new sense of purpose, prophetic destiny and apostolic mission to the ordinary believer. It elevates us to becoming servants of the Lord through the process of our daily life. In other words, Kingdom Humanity fulfils our hope towards the “Day of the Saints”.
Every dimension of revelation and understanding in the Kingdom of God must be founded and anchored in the Word of God. The Greek word, “logos”, is what we translate as “the Word (of God)” in our English bibles. Logos is defined as reasoning, spoken thought, intelligence, discourse, rationality, computation etc. The Word is the Person of Christ. He is the framework of our thought and reasoning. And the job of the Holy Spirit is to reveal the Word (Christ) to us; it is to reveal correct thought processes in God. Through the process of revelation, we form doctrine, a mechanism of instruction and definition of thought processes in God.
Let us consider some scriptures that the Holy Spirit is using to frame the revelation of Kingdom Humanity.
Rev 21:2 Then I, John, saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. NKJV
The first image of Revelation 21:2
The apostle John refers to two images in this scripture. Firstly, John sees the vision of the city. This is not the first time that we see the prophetic image of the city being used in the scriptures. The Bible generally refers to “Mt. Zion, the city of God”. The Book of Hebrews associates Mt. Zion with the church of Jesus Christ.
22 But you have come to Mount Zion, to the heavenly Jerusalem, the city of the living God. You have come to thousands upon thousands of angels in joyful assembly, 23 to the church of the firstborn, whose names are written in heaven. You have come to God, the judge of all men, to the spirits of righteous men made perfect, 24 to Jesus the mediator of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood that speaks a better word than the blood of Abel. NIV
According to apostle Paul’s teachings, “heavenly Jerusalem is our mother”:
26 But the Jerusalem that is above is free, and she is our mother. 27 For it is written: “Be glad, O barren woman, who bears no children; break forth and cry aloud, you who have no labor pains; because more are the children of the desolate woman than of her who has a husband.” NIV
Heavenly Jerusalem is our mother – she is the overarching principle giving rise to the very establishment of the church of Jesus Christ. We are established upon the premise that God does not want a Mt. Sinai, legalistic people who are bound by law. He wants a people who have been saved from sin to become God’s righteousness in Christ. God wants a people who will become a “city of heaven” on earth.
Jesus defines us as a city built on a hill:
Matt 5:14 “You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. NIV
The metaphor of the city is powerful! Throughout human history, cities have always represented civilizations. The city of God therefore speaks of a human civilization – one that is not established through principles of humanism, but one that is established through the Nature of Christ. In other words, Kingdom Humanity is a proclamation of the vision of church as a civilization of God!
The second image of Revelation 21:2
John says that the city was prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. Again, the idea of a bride is not being used for the first time in the Book of Revelation. The scriptures declare church to be the Bride of Christ (Eph. 5:27, 2 Cor. 11:2). The parable of 10 virgins equally points to the idea of the bride waiting for the groom (Matt. 25:1-13). John says that the bride was prepared and made ready (adorned) to receive her husband. The word “adorned” is taken from the Greek word “kosmeo”, which is related to the word “kosmos”. This word means the ff., “to put in proper order, to set in order, orderly arrangement, decoration”. The city of God; the civilization of Christ defines a church that has gone through the process of spiritual transformation and beautification – the process of adopting arrangements of life that originate from the Nature of Christ.
Paul outlines the apostolic vision of removing spots, wrinkles, and blemishes from the church: Eph 5:27 that He must present her to Himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing, but that she should be holy and without blemish. NKJV
As long as church is still plagued by spots, wrinkles and blemishes of the world, she misses out on becoming a glorious, global community that represents the civilization of God in the earth.
22 You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; 23 to be made new in the attitude of your minds; 24 and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness. NIV
And he has taught you to let go of the lifestyle of the ancient man, the old self-life, which was corrupted by sinful and deceitful desires that spring from delusions. Now it’s time to be made new by every revelation that’s been given to you. And to be transformed as you embrace the glorious Christ-within as your new life and live in union with him! For God has re-created you all over again in his perfect righteousness, and you now belong to him in the realm of true holiness. TPT
…and then take on an entirely new way of life — a God-fashioned life, 23 a life renewed from the inside 24 and working itself into your conduct as God accurately reproduces his character in you. THE MESSAGE
The word that Paul uses to speak about “the old self vs. the new self”, is the Greek word “anthropos” (there is the old and the new anthropos). From anthropos, we get the English word anthropology, which defines the study of humanity. The word “anthropos” means humanity. The idea is that we must put off the old humanity because it has been corrupted by sin. And we must put on a new humanity which has been recreated in Christ. The apostolic vision of salvation is not simply a cessation of sinful life. Rather, it is a transformation of our humanity, a formation of a new humanity (nature and quality of life) in Christ. If we are in Christ, then we are a new creation (2 Cor. 5:17), and we are a new humanity (Eph. 2:15). Christ lives in us. We are now His incarnation here on earth. We use our lives to humanize the Nature of Christ that comes to us by faith and through the agency of the Holy Spirit. Gal 2:20 I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. NIV
Just like there were people with skills to make the garments of the priests in the Old Testament, so is Christ mobilizing gifts in the church – people who will have the skill to not only form the “garment of Christ” (the Humanity of Christ) through doctrine, but who will also be able to help her put on the same garment.
“Have Aaron your brother brought to you from among the Israelites, along with his sons Nadab and Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar, so they may serve me as priests. 2 Make sacred garments for your brother Aaron, to give him dignity and honor. 3 Tell all the skilled men to whom I have given wisdom in such matters that they are to make garments for Aaron, for his consecration, so he may serve me as priest. 4 These are the garments they are to make: a breastpiece, an ephod, a robe, a woven tunic, a turban and a sash. They are to make these sacred garments for your brother Aaron and his sons, so they may serve me as priests. 5 Have them use gold, and blue, purple and scarlet yarn, and fine linen. NIV
5 Moses said to the assembly, “This is what the Lord has commanded to be done.” 6 Then Moses brought Aaron and his sons forward and washed them with water. 7 He put the tunic on Aaron, tied the sash around him, clothed him with the robe and put the ephod on him. He also tied the ephod to him by its skillfully woven waistband; so it was fastened on him. 8 He placed the breastpiece on him and put the Urim and Thummim in the breastpiece. 9 Then he placed the turban on Aaron’s head and set the gold plate, the sacred diadem, on the front of it, as the Lord commanded Moses.. NIV

This is a call and an invitation to you – disciple of Christ – to participate in this global mission of practicing and witnessing about the Humanity of Christ in the earth. This practice will take place through the three spheres of our lives – Devotion, Personal Humanity and Citizenship.
This is not an invitation to a “gathering” or to added “ministry activity”. This is an invitation for you to convert your life into a platform of expressing the Humanity of Christ upon the earth.
Spheres of Practice
Sphere 1: Devotion: we engage this sphere as priests through the agency of the human heart. It represents priestly practice of our devotion before God by the power of the Holy Spirit. The goal is to witness about the Lordship of Christ. (Devotion empowers us to internalize Christ and His Kingdom).
Sphere 2: Personal Humanity: we engage this sphere as human beings through the agency of our character. The sphere represents the practice of Humanity of Christ through the cycle of spiritual conviction and personal transformation. The goal is to witness about the Humanity of Christ. (Personal Humanity empowers us to personify Christ and His Kingdom).
Sphere 3: Citizenship: we engage this sphere through the agency of our inhabitation in various Spaces of Life. The sphere represents the practice of God’s righteous administration in Spaces of Life. The goal is to administer spatial transformation and to witness about the administration of God. (Citizenship empowers us to domesticate Christ and His Kingdom).
